Centrally situated

The lively villages of Buitenpost, Kollum, De Westereen, Burgum and Dokkum are a short (cycling) distance from De Trieme. Facilities are also located here. The nearest supermarket and catering establishments are 2.5 km away. The larger towns such as Leeuwarden, Drachten and Groningen are easy to reach and are 25 to 40 km away. There is a train station in Buitenpost and De Westereen that connects these villages with Leeuwarden and Groningen.

Walking and cycling

North-East Friesland is an area that you can ideally explore by bike or on foot. There are plenty of long-distance routes or pre-planned short routes through forests, on small roads or along the water. From De Trieme, you can pay a visit to the water sports village of Kollum, the Elfstedenstad Dokkum, the Lauwersmeer National Park or the lake Bergumermeer. Determining your own route is very easy with the extensive network for cycling and walking. Would you like to make a stop along the way? Visit a resting point or a local restaurant.

Water sports and water recreation

The region of North-East Friesland can be admired perfectly from the water. In addition to the large lakes, you can also sail beautiful routes to the slightly lesser-known areas. Near De Trieme it is possible to rent a sloop, motorboat, canoe or SUP board. Would you like to take a refreshing swim? You can do that at one of the many swimming pools or beaches in North-East Friesland.

Wadden Islands and mudflat hiking

Get to know the North Frisian coast of the Wadden area on the Wadden Sea Unesco World Heritage. Pay a visit to the Wadden Islands and imagine yourself in a completely different world. At about 20 km from De Trieme you can take the ferry from Holwerd to Ameland or from Lauwersoog to Schiermonnikoog. It is also possible to walk to these islands by means of mudflat walking tours. Walking on the bottom of the sea is a unique experience that you should not miss when visiting Friesland.

Activities for children

In North-East Friesland, children will not be bored and they can play outside in nature all day long. But even when it rains, there are plenty of activities. Within a radius of 20 kilometers from De Trieme are play forests, play grounds, theme parks, petting zoos, beaches and swimming pools.
